10.10.07 Bishop Galante to preside at White Mass for Healthcare Professionals on October 14

Most Reverend Joseph A. Galante, D.D., J.C.D, Bishop of Camden, will preside at the ninth annual White Mass in honor of physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals:

At the Mass, the St. Luke Award will be presented to healthcare professionals in the diocese who exemplify Catholic values.  This year the award recipients are:

Agnes Berger, R.N., Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Camden
Sr. Mary Frances Kyle, SSJ, St. Joseph’s Parish, Somers Point
Dr. Carlos Borromeo, M.D., St. Peter’s Parish, Merchantville
Dr. Kathryn Lambert, D.O., Assumption Parish, Atco

The “White Mass” is traditionally celebrated in late October around the feast of St. Luke, observed on October 18. St. Luke, the inspired author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, was a physician.

In addition, guest speaker, Dr. John Bertagnolli, D.O., Hammonton Family Medicine, will speak to attendees about his experiences traveling each summer to Kingston, Jamaica with medical students and medical residents to work with the Brothers of the Missionaries of Charity to provide medical care to the poor.
