10.5.07 Recognition for Gloucester Catholic sports

GLOUCESTER CITY – Officials from the N.J. State Interscholastic Athletic Association and ShopRite will honor Gloucester Catholic High School for having the  best athletic program in the New Jersey Parochial B Division.

They will present the ShopRite Cup to the school community on Friday, Oct. 5 at a 10 a.m. assembly.

Only six schools in the state have been honored with this award.

The ShopRite Cup recognizes sports programs for both sportsmanship and performance in championship play in 32 individual sports (fall, winter and spring) sanctioned by the NJSIAA.

The Rams of Gloucester Catholic were ranked as the number one golf team in New Jersey and won the Parochial B crown for baseball for their 2006-07 season. (The Rams hold the New Jersey record for their 13 state championships in baseball.)

Gloucester Catholic also was the South Jersey champion in boys’ tennis. The girls’ and boys’ soccer, the boys’ basketball and the softball teams all made it to tournament play.

“Gloucester Catholic has a long heritage of sportsmanship and athletic excellence,” stated Acting GCHS Athletic Director Tony Powers.  “We are proud to receive this exclusive award for the best overall sports program in New Jersey Parochial B.”
