Statement of the Diocese on the Defeat of the Stem Cell Bond Issue

We are heartened that the voters of New Jersey rejected a bond initiative that they found to be fiscally burdensome and morally problematic.

The Catholic Church, which has been committed to the care of the sick for two millennia, will continue to educate the public on the advantages of adult, umbilical cord and placenta stem cell research, which already has led to great successes in curing debilitating disease.  At the same time, we will continue to speak out against any research that would harm human life.
