CAMDEN (January 17, 2006) – Parents and their children educated by Sister Paul Mercedes, IHM, at Annunciation Regional School here will take part in a special memorial Mass for her at:
Monday, Jan. 9, while crossing Cottman Avenue at Hawthorne Street, Philadelphia, to get to St. Matthew Church, Sister Paul, 61, – who taught and was principal from 1995 to 2001 at Annunciation School here – was struck and killed by a driver who never stopped. More than a dozen students – some now in high school and some in college – will return to the church to take part in the celebration as altar servers, readers and to bring gifts to the altar. More former students, their parents, and former teachers are expected.
A framed picture of Sister Paul taken from a previous yearbook will be placed in the church. The church seats more than 800. The Mass will be celebrated by Father James O. Dabrowski, pastor, Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, along with Fr. Robert Dunphy, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, in Mt. Ephraim.
