CAMDEN (November 9, 2006) — Attorney and University of Pennsylvania History professor Edward F. Mannino will give a lecture entitled “The Role of Catholicism and the Catholic Conscience in American History.”
Professor Mannino will speak on the dynamic relationship between Catholic teaching and its influence during the course of American History. Citing five specific examples, he will explore what he calls the once “prophetic voice” of Catholicism in American society. He examines whether it has in time moved from one of advocating a “counter culture” to one that has been assimilated into American thought and has been thus diminished.
The forum is one of a series of lectures held at the Community Hall of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden. Previous lectures have featured former Major League Baseball Commissioner Faye Vincent, papal biographer George Weigel, DEA Administrator Karen Tandy, CNN’s Mark Shields, Fred Jacobs, New Jersey Commissioner of Health and Senior Services, and Ambassador Thomas Melady, who served as Ambassador to the Vatican, Burundi and Uganda.
The Cathedral Community Hall has secure and ample parking. There is no cost for admission. For more information, contact (856) 964-1580
