Four Local students named National Merit Semi-Finalists

Students from Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Pennsauken, and St. Augustine Preparatory School, Richland, have been named semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students are Daniel H. Mittler of St. Augustine and Robert L. Lapenta, Sarah A. Wellons and John P. Zimmatore of Bishop Eustace.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors. They will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $33 million. To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed by the school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the students earlier qualifying test performance.
