On March 23, 2016, Bishop Dennis Sullivan welcomed six new members into the Catholic Church through the sacrament of Confirmation. It is the first time a Bishop has celebrated this sacrament with inmates in one of the correctional institutions within the Diocese of Camden. The men are now a part of the Parish of the Holy Cross in Bridgeton, even as they continue to serve their prison terms.
As Bishop Sullivan put it, they will now “take the peace and fire of the Holy Spirit into the facility” where they are imprisoned. What a way to enter Holy Week and Easter!
Catholic Charities’ Prison Ministry program connects volunteers to the important work of “visiting the imprisoned” in the Diocese of Camden.
