Diocese to host presentations on Hispanic Community in Catholic Parishes May 9 & 10

The Office of Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Camden will sponsor a presentation, “Hispanic Community in Catholic Parishes” on Friday, May 9 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Sicklerville and in Spanish on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at John Paul II Retreat House in Vineland.

For several decades the Church in the United States has been undergoing a major demographic transition in which Hispanics are rapidly becoming a majority. The impact of this transformation is primarily experienced at the level of parish life.

In a letter to diocesan priests, Bishop Dennis Sullivan wrote, “It is our mission, as shepherds of the people of God, to meet the new realities of ethnic and cultural changes in our country and diocese. It has been and always will be our desire to serve each of our Catholic parishioners in their journey of faith, respecting, valuing, and directing their own spirituality based on their culture and tradition.”

The guest speaker will be Dr. Hosffman Ospino, Associate Professor of Hispanic Ministry and Religious Education at Boston College. He holds an MA in theology with a concentration in Church History and a PhD in Theology and Education from Boston College. Dr. Ospino’s research concentrates on the dialogue between theology and culture. He has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics.
