Committee to make recommendations on senior health care ministry in diocese

Bishop Dennis Sullivan has appointed a Blue Ribbon Committee to make recommendations on health care ministry for seniors in the Diocese of Camden. The diocese operates Bishop McCarthy Residence, Vineland; Our Lady’s Residence, Pleasantville; St. Mary’s Catholic Home and the Manor at St. Mary’s, both in Cherry Hill.

The committee will study how the diocese can better minister to seniors. Its work will be coordinated by Martin Idler, executive director of Diocesan Health Services.

“For decades, the Diocese of Camden has provided and continues to provide wonderful service to a segment of our senior citizen population in need of skilled nursing care with our mission emphasis on helping those less fortunate,” Bishop Sullivan wrote to each of the committee members.

The bishop noted that changes in government funding have created significant market challenges for agencies providing health care to seniors, including the Diocese of Camden.

“I welcome and look forward to hearing recommendations from the Committee with respect to the challenges facing our diocesan homes now and into the future,” he said.
