The Diocese of Camden kicked off Black History Month with a Feb. 7 liturgy at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Sicklerville, celebrated by Bishop Dennis Sullivan with diocesan priests. Sponsored by the diocesan office of Black Catholic Ministries, the Mass included a Prayer for African-American and African families.
Preaching at the liturgy, was renowned Black Catholic evangelist, Father James E. Goode, OFM, pastoral director of Solid Ground Franciscan Ministry. He is also the founder and president of the National Black Catholic Apostolates for Life, and in 1989, inaugurated the National Day of Prayer for the African-American Family, celebrated on the first Sunday of Black History Month. On Feb. 14, the 25th Anniversary of Afternoon of Jazz, Plus was celebrated with a sold out number of more than 420 attendees. The event was held at Masso’s and entertainment was provided by “To the Max.”
