Associate Hospital Chaplain

Part-time (10 hours per week – $19.00/hour)
Location: Inspira Mullica Hill; Jefferson Washington Township Hospital
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with Priest Catholic Hospital Chaplain and Associate Chaplain in cluster of hospitals assigned to coordinate and deliver pastoral care.
- Work with hospital staff to become aware of patients who request a Catholic Chaplain visit them while hospitalized and provide them the appropriate pastoral visit.
- Coordinate the work for the Priest Chaplain to complete his responsibilities of sacramental service- Anointing and Reconciliation.
- Coordinate visits by lay Eucharistic Ministers and visitors from local parishes.
- In absence of the Chaplain for that cluster, due to vacation, weekly day off or retreat, will coordinate the needs of patients by contacting the local parishes to respond to emergencies and the appropriate request for sacraments.
- Assist the Diocesan Director of Hospital Chaplaincy in the education of the laity in the appropriate administration and need for the Sacrament of the Sick, and in the proper understanding of the role of the priest, deacon, pastoral associate and lay EM’s and visitors in the pastoral care of the sick.
- Be the liaison between the Hospital Catholic Chaplain and the local parishes to inform them of the parishioners who wish them notified of their hospitalization in order to arrange a pastoral visit from their known parish priest or a follow up visit to them upon discharge.
- Be the liaison with the hospital Administration in order to secure feedback and support for the Catholic Chaplaincy program at their facility.
- Assure that all area nursing homes are being adequately served by local parishes in their celebration of the Sacraments for their Catholic residents.
- Participate in and assist in the presentation of faith formation educational seminars to enhance the understanding of the Sacrament of the Sick, Advanced Directives, End of Life issues etc. among the lay faithful.
- Assist in the compiling and submittal of monthly spiritual reports to the Diocesan Director of Hospital Chaplaincy.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
- Minimum 1 unit of CPE training or related hospital chaplaincy experience and training. (CPE credential preferred)
- Demonstrated skills in planning and organizing.
- Minimum 1-year experience in a Hospital Chaplain role.
- Understanding and ability to articulate Catholic Healthcare Ethical and Religious Directives.
- Feels called into ministry to the sick and dying
Language Skills:
- Bilingual preferred (English/ Spanish), but not required.
- Excellent oral communication skills are required.

The person should exhibit a positive attitude, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to work collaboratively with priest chaplains, hospital administrators, local Pastors, volunteers, and a variety of community partners. He/she displays a professional demeanor and is able to prioritize workloads.
