Diocese of Camden Community Symposium on Nostra Aetate December 1

On December 1, the Diocese of Camden will be holding the  second of three celebrations this year as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ground breaking Second Vatican Council declaration Nostra Aetate, “In our Time.” Nostra Aetate opened up relations between Catholicism and non-Christian religions, specifically repudiating anti-Semitism and the belief that the Jewish people were collectively guilty for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The symposium will be held at Temple Emanuel, 1101 Springdale Road, Cherry Hill, N.J., on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at 7:00pm, and will focus on the third section of the document concerning the Catholic Church’s relations with the Jewish people.

Bishop Dennis Sullivan will bring greetings from the Diocese of Camden and give a brief overview of the many positive developments that have come both locally and internationally.

Two world-renowned experts on Catholic-Jewish relations, Dr. Phil Cunningham, professor Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations at St. Joseph’s University and Dr. Ruth Sandberg, professor Jewish-Christian Studies Program at Gratz College, will speak on the significance of Nostra Aetate as a transformative document.

There will also be on display a photo gallery of Pope Francis historic trip to the Holy Land.
The program is free and open to the general public.
