3.25.07 Bishop invites Young Adult in Unlikely Setting

Most Reverend Joseph A. Galante, D.D., J.C.D., Bishop of Camden, will host and be the guest speaker at “Theology on Tap”:

Thursday, March 29, 2007
6:30 – 9:00 PM
O’Malley’s Restaurant
50 Crescent Boulevard
Gloucester City, NJ 08030

The session, which is sponsored by the diocese’s Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, which have invited young adults to gather to explore and to enter more deeply into their faith, to ask questions, and to socialize with other young Catholics in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

“Theology on Tap” was begun 25 years ago in the Archdiocese of Chicago, as an attempt to reach young adult Catholics, both married and single, who often lose contact with their faith in these years. The necessity of outreach to young Catholics was identified as a major priority through feedback Bishop Galante received when he traveled throughout the diocese for 135 “Speak Up” sessions in 2005 and 2006. “Bishop Galante has repeatedly emphasized that the Church cannot always standby and wait for the people to come to us,” said Andrew Walton, spokesman for the diocese.

“We have to reach out to people and be present to them where they are.”  In a similar way, Bishop Galante has conducted Masses each summer in the fields for farm workers and their families. The Thursday session is the fifth in a series of weekly sessions that have been held during the month of March. Additional sessions will be held in other areas of the diocese later in the year.

The cost for the session is $11.80, which includes buffet style dinner. For more information, contact the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry at 856-583-2878 or email smcgirl@camdendiocese.org or cjones@churchoftheholyfamily.org.
