3.07.09 Dioceses plan Trauma Recovery Program

PISCATAWAY- On Friday, March 9 here, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., the Trauma Recovery Program will organize a day-long discussion called Healing the Mind, Body & Spirit: A Faith-Based Response to Childhood Abuse & Neglect.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of Newark and the dioceses of Camden, Metuchen and Trenton, and will be held at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center of the Diocese of Metuchen. Presented by Sharon G. Froom and Father Kenneth W. Schmidt, the co-founders of the Trauma Recovery Program, Diocese of Kalamazoo, Mich., the goal of the conference is to assist individuals who are victims of childhood abuse or neglect.

According to conference organizers, the Trauma Recovery Program is designed to help victim of abuse or neglect “move toward the ultimate healing of interpersonal forgiveness and grief for the childhood they never had.” There is an emphasis on developing one’s self-awareness, controlling one’s feelings after personal trauma and understanding the effects of trauma, and why it continues.

In addition to her work with the Trauma Recovery Program, Sharon G. Froom has 29 years¹ experience with trauma survivors, and is pastoral counselor at St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish in Kalamazoo. Father Kenneth W.Schmidt has a master¹s degree in counseling psychology, and is pastor of St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish.

Registration for this event is $75 and includes continental breakfast, lunch, and a workshop manual.
