5.31.05 Vatican’s Archbishop to Address Communications Professionals

Archbishop John P. Foley, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, will be the keynote speaker at the Diocese of Camden’s first annual Media Day:

Friday, June 3, 2005
11:00 a.m.
Cherry Hill
Hilton Hotel
2349 West Marlton Pike
Cherry Hill, NJ 08002

Archbishop Foley’s presentation, “Keeping 5,000 Communicators Happy,” will offer his reflections on the massive effort undertaken by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications—the Vatican’s communications office—to accommodate the influx of journalists and media professionals covering the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of his successor, Pope Benedict XVI last April. Most Reverend Joseph A. Galante, Bishop of Camden, will also offer remarks and both Bishop Galante and Archbishop Foley will participate in a Question and Answer session at the conclusion of the event.

The event is timed to mark World Communications Day, which has been observed worldwide by the Church since 1967. The observance of an annual Communications Day was called for by the Second Vatican Council in 1963 to celebrate the work of communications professionals and to call to mind the great potential of the media and the opportunities for its use on behalf of the common good. Pope John Paul II declared the theme for this year’s World Communications Day to be: “The Communications Media: At the Service of Understanding Between Peoples.”
