5.20.05 Bishop to Ordain Vineland Man

Bishop Joseph A. Galante will ordain Steven V. Pinzon to the priesthood at St. Agnes Church in Blackwood on

Pinzon, 26, is originally from Vineland, and is the son of Humberto and Elvira Pinzon. He attended Catholic elementary school at St. Mary’s Regional School in Vineland. He then went to Vineland Public High School from 1993-1997. He began his time as a seminarian after he graduated high school at the age of 18. He attended eight years at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia receiving a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s of divinity. In the past year he has been assigned as a deacon to St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Sicklerville.

Pizon’s previous summer pastoral experiences have included Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Cape May and St. Joseph in Somers Point. His previous apostolate assignments on Thursdays during the school year have included the Newman Center at Rowan University,, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Vineland, St. Peter in Merchantville, St. Jude in Blackwood and Sacred Heart in South Camden. With the generosity of Father Peter Saporito, the pastor at St. Padre Pio Parish in Vineland, Father Pinzon will offer his first Mass at St. Padre Pio, his home parish.

He will celebrate it on the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity on Sunday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. The homilist will be Msgr. John Frey of St. Rose of Lima, Haddonfield, who Pinzonn came to know at St. Isidore Parish in Vineland.
