CAMDEN (September 15, 2005) – A new affordable living complex for low-income senior citizens will open on September 22 in West Deptford Township with a dedication ceremony and blessing. “Shepherd’s Farm,” a 75-unit complex on Grove Road near Kings Highway, is a joint undertaking of the Diocese of Camden, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and St. James A.M.E. Church, both in Thorofare, NJ.
Shepherd’s Farm consists of 75 one-bedroom apartments, as well as a centrally located community room. Residents have the option of participating in a Congregate Housing Services Program which provides one daily hot meal and housekeeping, laundry, shopping and finance services.
Funding for the $7.5 million project was obtained through the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), the Federal Home Loan Bank (FLHB) and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA). The project is being managed by the Housing Authority of Gloucester County. The 10 a.m. dedication ceremony will include a blessing by Most Reverend Joseph A. Galante, Bishop of Camden, and participation by other religious leaders and state, county and local officials. A reception will follow in Shepherd’s Farm’s community room.
