Bishop Galante celebrates White Mass

Most Reverend Joseph A. Galante, D.D., J.C.D, Bishop of Camden, presided at the eleventh annual White Mass in honor of physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals:

At the Mass, the St. Luke Award was presented to healthcare professionals in the diocese who exemplify Catholic values. This year the award recipients were:

• Robert J. Labaczewski, D.O., St. Pius X Parish, Cherry Hill
• Vincent T. McDermott, Jr., M.D., St. Rose of Lima Parish, Haddon Heights
• Margaret J. McDermott, R.N., St. Rose of Lima Parish, Haddon Heights
• Sister Lucia Maroor, H.S.M., L.N.H.A., Administrator of Bishop McCarthy
Residence, Vineland

The “White Mass” is traditionally celebrated in late October around the feast of St. Luke, observed on October 18. St. Luke, the inspired author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, was a physician.

A reception, sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, immediately followed the Mass along with a presentation by guest speaker, Rev. Joseph W. Kukura, President of the Catholic HealthCare Partnership of New Jersey on “Health Care Reform.”
