08.03.07 Lynn Domenico named principal of St. Joseph High School, Hammonton

Lynn Domenico, a nationally recognized principal for her work at St. Lawrence School, Lindenwold, has been appointed by Bishop Joseph Galante as the new principal at St. Joseph High School, Hammonton, effective Aug. 15.

St. Joseph currently has 34 faculty members and 520 students.

“I am confident that under her leadership, the faculty and students of St. Joseph High School will continue to advance spiritually and academically,” said Bishop Galante.

Domenico has 36 years experience as a Catholic school teacher and principal, having taught language arts to seventh and eighth grade students at St. Lawrence School from 1972-99 and served as principal of the school since 1999.

Domenico has a bachelor’s degree in English from Rutgers University, as well as a master’s in education from Chestnut Hill College.

This past April, she was named a National Distinguished Principal by the U.S. Department of Education, and was awarded the Distinguished Principal of the Year award for the New Jersey/Pennsylvania region of the National Catholic Education Association.

At St. Lawrence, Domenico instituted a Distance-Learning video conferencing program, which enabled students to interact with school students in places such as Mexico, Italy and Ukraine.  With students in Mexico, a class at St. Lawrence analyzed migratory patterns of monarch butterflies, and with the Italian students, they studied the global use of water.

Other innovations at the school included the annual “NASA Night Out,” a school wide, collaborative effort that simulated a space flight and lunar landing. The lower grades examined the role plants and animals play in the life of our planet, while the upper grades designed a spacecraft, simulated a lunar archeological expedition, and estimated things such as how much air and water would be needed for an actual lunar trip.
