The Office of Lifelong Faith Formation: Youth, Young Adult & Campus Ministries gives us an opportunity to communicate with young people, young adults, youth leaders, catechists and all interested in youth ministry in the Camden Diocese.
In general youth catechesis is directed to adolescence from about the age of eleven of twelve years to about the age of eighteen of nineteen. In each of these situations, however, adolescent catechesis is most effective when situated within a comprehensive program of youth ministry that includes social, liturgical, and catechetical components as well as opportunities for service. (NDC 264)
The most effective catechetical programs for adolescents are integrated into a comprehensive program of pastoral ministry for youth that includes catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, and prayer and worship. Such programs aim to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today; to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the catholic faith community; and to foster total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. (NDC, 201; cf. RTV, 9-17, 26)
What is Youth Ministry?
Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministries is led by Gregory Coogan in collaboration with parish leaders throughout the diocese. The efforts of the office continue the task of discerning, evaluating and then responding to the spiritual and faith development needs of the young people of our diocese.
