1 January 2018 Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God  is celebrated on Monday.  Whenever January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, or August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, or November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.

10 May 2018   Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord  (Day of Obligation) is celebrated on Thursday, (sixth week of Easter)with the possibility of an anticipated Mass on Wednesday evening.

There are many regions of the United States  where the celebration of the Ascension of Our Lord has been transferred to the 7th Sunday of Easter.  New Jersey and Pennsylvania are not among those states.

15 August 2018  Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on Wednesday, with the possibility of anticipated Masses on Tuesday evening.  When this feast occurs on a Saturday or a Monday, it remains a Solemnity, but the obligation to participate in Mass is removed.

1 November 2018  Solemnity of All Saints (Day of Obligation) is celebrated on Thursday this year, with the possibility of an anticipated Mass on Wedneday evening.

8 December 2018 Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary  (National and Diocesan Patronal Feast – Day of Obligation)  is celebrated on Saturday, with the possibility of an anticipated Mass on Friday evening.

25 December 2018 The Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord is celebrated on Tuesday with the possibility of anticipated Masses on the evening of 24 December.

This year the Ascension of Our Lord, the Solemnity of All Saints, and the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary are celebrated on days that call for the Mass Obligation to be retained.

This decree of the Conference of Bishops was approved and confirmed by the Apostolic See by a decree of the Congregation for Bishops (Prot. N. 296/84), signed by Bernardin Cardinal Gantin, Prefect of the Congregation, and dated July 4, 1992.
