Statement on Hugg-Harrison-Glover House of New Saint Mary’s Cemetery

On November 19, The Philadelphia Inquirer erroneously reported that the Diocese of Camden is the owner of the Hugg-Harrison-Glover house on the property of New Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr, N.J. In fact, since 2010 the New Jersey Department of Transportation has owned the building, along with 6 acres of land surrounding it, via an eminent domain claim.
The land will be used as part of the Route 295/42 interchange reconstruction, currently being conducted.
The operations of New Saint Mary’s Cemetery have been headquartered in the Hugg-Harrison-Glover house since 1923, when the cemetery was opened. Cemetery staff will continue to operate out of that building until a new facility is opened at a later date.
Any questions or concerns related to the future status of Hugg-Harrison-Glover house should be directed to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
