On Sunday, April 22, the Diocese of Camden held one of the largest outdoor Catholic gatherings in South Jersey at Washington Lake Park in Sewell, NJ. More than 1,000 Catholics throughout the six southern counties of New Jersey, joined the Bishop Dennis Sullivan, along with scores of priests, religious sisters, and seminarians to both pray for and promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life at the 7th annual iRace4Vocations outdoor Mass, 5K run, 1 mile walk and picnic.
Participants represented people of all ages from the South Jersey community including many families and hundreds of students from our South Jersey Catholic Schools, who attended the event, joined the celebration of Mass and participated in the run and walk.
Since it began in 2011, iRace4Vocations has grown in size and scope each year. This year, the event was held on the World Day of Prayer for Vocations and Good Shepherd Sunday.
“World Day of Prayer for Vocations is dedicated to praying for vocations to the consecrated life and to the priesthood. These vocations are necessary for the Church. We remember the Church’s need for more men and women to give themselves to the vocation of shepherding God’s people. I encourage our youth to consider vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life. Perhaps, you are being called by God and just need someone to tell you to listen to His voice,” said Bishop of Camden, Dennis J. Sullivan.
In the diocese, vocations to the priesthood are at the highest they’ve been in 11 years, with 17 young men from South Jersey currently in seminary formation.
This free event, sponsored by the Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Camden, welcomes people of all ages to enjoy the annual ‘faithraiser,’ which encourages each participant to pray for increases in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Top Male: Tyler Gargano; time: 18:12.5
