Dec. 9 Mass Marks 75th Anniversary of Diocese

Bishop Joseph Galante will celebrate and preach at the 75th anniversary Mass of the Diocese of Camden at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. The Cathedral is located at 642 Market Street in downtown Camden.

Music will be provided by the Cathedral Music Ministry. Parishioners from throughout the six counties of the diocese have been invited to attend.

The Diocese of Camden was created by Pope Pius XI on Dec. 9, 1937 with Bishop Bartholomew J. Eustace named its first bishop soon after. The new diocese, formerly a part of the Diocese of Trenton, was created from six counties in South Jersey: Atlantic, Camden, Gloucester, Cumberland, Cape May and Salem. The diocese is now comprised of 475,000 Catholics in 70 parishes under the leadership of Bishop Galante, installed in 2004 as the seventh bishop of Camden.
