Built upon Gospel values and four pillars of service, social justice, spirituality and community, teens and adults will be sent out to live and work the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

The Summer in the City Program is a week-long immersion project where the participant is given the opportunity to live and work the gospel of service and social justice through the gift of self. The combination of service at multiple work sites and reflection sessions gives young people the chance to use their talents and abilities to help their neighbor, and increase their awareness and understanding of the importance of the rights and dignity of the human person.

In recent years, agencies have included day care centers, housing rehabilitation sites, soup kitchens, food pantries, community gardening programs and senior care centers among others. All service sites are managed by agencies with which we have developed a previous working relationship. While many sites work with those who are economically poor, we also work with sites who serve those poor in spirit, loneliness, etc. and fulfill our call to serve through the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Participation is open to any student who is in high school in 2017. All levels of experience are welcome, whether the participant is a service veteran or has never done service of any kind before.
